So, the new expansion has been announced! And it looks like a revival of warcraft 1 & 2 characters on a revitalized Dreanor!!!

As much as I'm happy to see WoW return to its roots a little more, I'd say this is something a little unexpected. I kind'a thought the big 100 would take place on something cool like an invasion of Netherazim to take down KJ once and for all on his home turf...not placing Garrosh's granddaddy at the receiving end of a raid.

Watched the trailer video. Explained nothing other than the usual "LEVEL CAP RAISED!! NEW ZONES! NEW BATTLEGROUNDS!!! RAAAAAAWRRRR!" ...the same things you would come to expect anyways. Nothing about the lore or how...well...a planet that went the way of Alderaan is suddenly back in play.

So I'm guessing this a going-back-in-time-to-save-the-past type of scenerio? I was a fan of all the Caverns of Time dungeons and raids...but an entire CoT EXPANSION? Or is this Blizz doing their "we're doing this because its awesome, lore be damned!" again?

They make it sound like that going through the Dark Portal is the means of getting to Dreanor. what happens to Outlands now?

But as someone who grew up with the RTS games I have to agree with the theme. WoW was designed to make it so neither the Horde or Alliance is really the heroes or villains, and you don't know who to root for. Both sides have their ripe and rotten apples, but in WC 1&2 that was not the case. In those games the Horde were the clear bad guys up until Thrall showed up. (yeah, yeah, demonic influence blah blah). Seeing the Old Horde as an enemy again is a nice revisit to where warcraft began, and I really like that.

That and the player housing/village building looks pretty sweet as well.

Well, feel free to educate me on the new lore. I still haven't played MoP -_-

Poor Talia. I knew life for her within the horde would be difficult but I never immagined it to be this bad. After the end of the story arc commencing with "Relocation" I thought that Raul and Kleeyo would succed in getting back together (even if it were impossible for them to have any more children together).

I guess racism in Azeroth doesn't go away that easily.

I imagine it would have been difficult for Raul too; living in Alliance settlements.

Clef, a question (not actually relevant to today's episode specifically). Now that I'm playing WoW again I've remembered that the only NPC in the game named "Wheathoof" is the farmer guy at the bridge near Bloodhoof villager. Is Kleeyo related to him?
Clef 19th Nov 2013, 3:53 AM edit delete reply
Wheathoof was the name of the Npc named by and created in honor of Ephoenix. His spirit only appears during the lunar festival in Thunder Bluff. Yeah, kleeyo's family name is based on that. That is the only NPC I know of. If there are others, it's news to me.

I just looked it up to make sure we were on the same page. There's Ahab Wheathoof that I was referring to and Ezra Wheathoof , which sounds like the one you were referring to. Both were, as you said, connected with Ephoenix.

As I understand the lore, garrosh meets a buddy that can go back in time, so they go back to old draenor and do STUFF that branches the timeline, so outlands and draenor both exist at once, probably possible because reality around the outlands is fragile enough and far enough removed. We find out about this because stuff happens that causes the dark portal to turn red and garrosh's new iron horde rushes out the dark portal. Then we go through and it's still the present. Garrosh the companion and his new doctor bud are the only ones doing any time-space maneuvering, we just move through space to a branched, but concurrent, timeline.

The only significant way this ties in is that at the end of siege of orgrimmar thrall and varian bicker about who should put him down, then taran zhu of the pandaren insist he stand trial for the crimes he committed against pandaria and to satisfy all. Somewhere between then and now he pulls a WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP and runs off.

As i understand it will involve a bronze dragon. Something i cant quite understand since as we know the aspects lost their titan powers and you would think that mean all the dragons lose their titan related powers too. But at the same time the events from the End Time will happen where Nozdormu go nuts and Deathwing who is already dead will be betrayed by the old gods and impaled on the Wyrmrest Temple. ...Every time i try to make sense of some of the Wow storylines i just end up with a headache...
Nivella 20th Nov 2013, 9:14 PM edit delete reply
It might, I'm leaning towards it not being a dragon because the BIG DEAL with the aspects not being aspects anymore is that this power didn't vanish, it's floating out and about for "mortals" to grasp.
Check out this npc:
She's got a couple buddies there with here at this spot you can see, and they are DEFINITELY not dragons.

I think it'll either be a similar person or maybe a defector of this group that garrosh gets chummy with.

Well The end to SoO can seem easily like a good episode of "How it should have ended" In away it is nice that there is more of a segway into the next expansion other then "Bed stuff happens"

There is a traitor in the Bronze Dragonflight as we know and there are several signs that point to Kairoz. And if you do the newest "dailies" Kairoz has you collect Epoch stones to build a timeglass that can teleport through time. But it is a bit unstable along with the timeless isle also flickers throughout different times and dimensions.

Garrosh goes on trial and gets saved before the verdict *By Kairoz* and Garrosh tries to go back to a time when there was a "true Horde" and stop his father from drinking the demon blood and unite all of the orc clans to defeat the alliance and Horde once and for all.

The reason outlands and our actual past/present is not affected is because when they tried to use the timeglass, it actually brought them to an alternate timestream apart from our own. *Meeettzeeen!?!?*

From there, Horde and Alliance enter the new timestream and Alliance take over Black Temple as their stronghold, we buddy with with the Frostwolf clan and Thrall's parents. Garrosh partners up with his father.

Why exactly the Bronze Dragon wants to help Garrosh? Not entirely sure, but I would assume it because he wants power and somehow Garrosh can help him with that.

This all comes from, a mixture of blue posts explaining things and careful observations of quests.
Feldres 19th Nov 2013, 5:53 PM edit delete reply
Well, actually, the Alliance doesn't take over the Black Temple, but ally themselves with its residents. Remember : no demonic corruption for the Horde, so since Ner'zhul and Gul'dan didn't need its energies or the Ata'mal crystals, the Karabor Temple is still inhabitated by Velen's people.

Stil trying to understand how the Iron Horde managed to link their Dark Portal to ours, on the other hand. Oh well, since we'll need to close it anyways, maybe Me'dan will finally appear in-game.

Okay, so a time travel expansion. Yup , that won't weak havoc on lore consistencies. Not one bit. Nosiree.
Perfectdoll 22nd Nov 2013, 12:32 PM edit delete reply
From what I understand there's also timeline hopping involved so it's not just a straight back hop along the timeline, there's also a hop to the right involved, like so:
Lackinganame 19th Nov 2013, 2:56 PM edit delete reply
Let the past remain in the past so that you can find joy in the Presence. Something I had to learn over the years actually lol.

And in some regards it has to do with the WoD expansion. Its not so much as were going to the past more of the past is coming to us. Wow insider has done a lot of covering on this so here a good post with a diagram to show what is happening. You may need go through the post a bit.

And well its a sad page I think its a good one. You've been brave in keeping the Alliance and Horde don't like one other and that such disputes do cause rifts. Its not nice but its just life.

Sorry to be a Lore Snob, but the Burning Legion is led by the Dark Titan Sargeras :P And i think you're referring to the Nathrezim. Plus i also think that the Man'ari Eredar are kind of the main Legion race. Whose homeworld called Argus might be the Legion Capital. Once again, sorry for being a lore-snob.
Clef 20th Nov 2013, 3:47 PM edit delete reply
Last time I mentioned sargaras quite a few people insisted he was dead. Was killed in one of the novels, apparently. My impression is that KJ is running the show now from the netherazim home world. That was where the legion launched their invasion from during WC3, at least. And isn't Argus also just a lifeless rock now?
Sytnos 22nd Nov 2013, 5:15 AM edit delete reply
Medivh was killed while possessed by Sargeras, but Sargeras got to Azeroth through an Avatar, if he could use an Avatar, i doubt that it would have been the last we've seen of him.

Damnit you caused me almost hearth attack of massive dawww after seeing Talia on taht 3dn panel..
Maryalee 20th Nov 2013, 12:34 PM edit delete reply
All the above.

The Dark Portal in Blasted Lands will become the new gateway to Draenor, which will exist in our present after the launch. Blizzard execs have talked about moving the entrance to Outland to Caverns of Time, since that actually IS in game past now.

I just want to hug Tallia and dry her tears.
Clef 21st Nov 2013, 2:03 AM edit delete reply
That would still make it a CoT expansion, heh. But that's probably the best move. Odd seeing garrosh still there wallowing in self-pity in Nagrand while he is sitting on Orgrimmar's throne in Azeroth. And seeing saurfang the younger still standing around while his father is mourning him elsewhere. Those would be the only two who would need updating though. No reason that illidan shouldn't still be reigning there any different than Arthas is still seen in Northrend.
Guest 22nd Nov 2013, 3:59 AM edit delete reply
Lorewise with the expansion the orcs never drink Mannoroth's blood and are never enslaved to the Legion, so the never go through the Dark Portal and the Legion doesn't return. So Illidan would still be imprisoned. Ner'zhul was never captured by KJ and didn't have his soul trapped inside the armor. Thus no Lich King.

What actually is happening is a fracture between dimensions/time lines and that's where the new Draenor is coming from, the new Dark Portal is now called the Red Portal once the Iron Horde (the name of united orc clans) comes through it/we go through it.

WoD is a new spin on the classic paradox "If you go back in time and kill your grandfather/grandmother would you cease to exist?"

Also the only two going back in time is Garrosh and the bronze dragon. Everything and everyone else is in the current time. It's an outlook of what might have happened if the orcs never were enslaved by the Legion and Garrosh decides to screw things up.

Hey, Clef, you haven't told us when Sara&Kleeyo had 500000 visitors, now closing to 700000 (or I might have missed it). Not that I'm surprised, this is one great comic.

You are right. Been a very long time since I last checked the stats page. Been dreading going there since every time I do, I see that my subscriber total has shrunk a bit more, heh...
