I managed to return with enough time to complete a full comic this week, after all. Next week I'm making a pic for mother's day, so the battle will resume in 2 weeks.

When I PvPed with Sara, mages were the #1 source of frustration for me, as performing my most basic class function (healing) invited my total destruction at the hands of counterspell, which left me with no choice but to scramble for LoS cover while I was locked out of every spell for so long that the mage could just wand me to death while spamming "/lol". Nothing is more humiliating then becoming an instant free HK because of 1 spell. Yeah...that usually caused me to jump on Kleeyo and go mage hunting in retaliation. I don't know how it is now, but back then Enhancement shamans were arguably the best counter-mage class.

Browsing Wow Insider and the official forums, mages (particularly frost) appear to be the most frequently complained-about class in PvP. I guess they're back at the top of the totem for the first time since they used to be able to 1-shot full health players with arcane barrage.

Exit question: How do you counter those pesky arcane junkies with YOUR class?

Camouflage, Aimed Shot, and then Serpent Sting and Arcane Shot. Counterspell THAT squishy pink casters!

I'm a hunter, my gun does the talking.

as for mages, lure em in a trap and fill their face with explosive shots. and when they blink away to flee like a little girl, their fate is sealed by the 50-yard range Kill Shot.

I'm sensing a lava burst coming soon >:D

Before Catac I'd just running circles around them spamming Howling Blast and Mind Freeze, but now I use Dark Circulum and Oblit Crits, unless I'm running Blood at the time, then it's just spam Heart Strike and be immortal with self heals.

That scarlet mage is cheating! You can only make 3 clones with mirror image.
Coffinshaker 30th Apr 2011, 6:39 PM edit delete reply
hehehehe! mini kleeyo! and poor sad face totem! >(

btw, love the special effects in the last 2 panels! great job on that!

hmm... well... as one of those mages that you hate so much, I usually just laugh! mwahahhaha... ok, well, that was back when 3min mage was still viable. haven't pvp'd lately so not sure... but I remember being in battles on my pally and getting super frustrated with mages. basically, like you said, you have to LOS and try to close the gap as much as possible, but it's not easy. if you can get up on them, you can win if you can keep them from going crazy with the spells, but mostly they just beat the living daylights out of my other characters.

oh! I did arena a few times on my shammy! if I noticed a mage looking my way, I'd charge up something not in my usual school... like a fire type spell (lava something?), get that silenced, then go about business as usual. arenas aren't my thing, so that didn't last very long... >\
ArcanonArg 30th Apr 2011, 6:47 PM edit delete reply

and you can get 4 mirror images if you glyph the damn thing.

@cascool- Sara would need to be more active during the Love is in the Air event for that to begin it's course.

@Coffin. Yeah, I was never much of an arena-goer either. I preferred battlegrounds and outdoor pvp, especially Wintergrasp and old-school AV. Arenas were glorified duels in a box that focused on intricate class balancing where 1 person making a mistake would cost your team victory. In BG's, where overall strategy mattered more then balancing, one person messing up rarely costs the team a match (with the exception of the occasional WSG)

Nice job with giving the Scarlet Crusade a little bit of flavor. I expected her to be a Disc priest or something. And now snap, she's an Arcane Mage! And doesn't even bother to cast any armor spell, that b*, she knew it would blow her cower! Where is the hunter when needed?... Oh right, she's naked, nevermind. I hope Sara will finish the trash off quickly enough, with the casting time of Lava Burst and Lightning, Kleeyo's doomed! Well, except if she uses Hex, Presence of Mind, or Earth Shock. K'mon Kleeyo, don't go with the big-boom spells on mages just because they're made of paper! I know it's hard, but you can sit near a gnome without punting it! If you can do that, everything is possible!:D

mostly pop cooldowns and crush them. (at lest before 4.1 need to find a new approach)
Mayafox 1st May 2011, 6:58 PM edit delete reply
I countered by rolling additional boomkins and multiboxing... it becomes a 1 on 5 fight that way :P

countering a mage, I basically unleash the spirit wolves and use their 50% speed buff, grounding totem gives time to come closer and circle arround gives you chance to be out of sight for the mage, course its kill or be killed when your Enhancement
Dragonborn 2nd May 2011, 6:16 AM edit delete reply
Where's the instant Lava Burst Kleeyo? With how they have elemental set up now, it takes a sec to set it up but you can damn near half life someone who's not in plate.

As for how I kill mages...... I play a affliction lock for pvp. Sick the puppy on it, DoT up and fear, I win. Only other times I pvp have been on my rogue and warrior, so, yea I just sorta kill them before they kill me.
gamer 2nd May 2011, 5:27 PM edit delete reply
I counter them with my druid, they are a multi-tool, they counter me I go animal on them

as a suggestion add a back to next button to the top of the comic. I hate trying to not look at whats going on while I skip back when its been a couple of weeks.

Unles I can get out of frostnova I get killed by mages tons. their way unbalanced in pvp right now..why their adding a cast time to FN.
Clef 5th May 2011, 11:12 AM edit delete reply
@Guest: At the top there's the "archive" button which will take you to a page where you can jump to a comic without having to look at them. Also just below the comic image there's a drop-down box where you can easily select any of the comics.

I'm a level 48 Tauren Balance Druid, and how I deal with pretty much anything is:
If they aren't already coming after me, I attack with Starfire, then use Entangling Roots, Insect Swarm and Moonfire for DPS, then, as they reach me, I switch to Bear form for Demoralizing Roar and maybe Maul (whichever one stuns them), then switch to cat form for bonus damage and dps, then back to my normal/Boomkin form for more spell damaged. If they try casting a spell, I'll Warstomp. If in bear form, I have a swipe ability that'll stun them for a half second, despite what it says in the tooltip. Sadly, I don't have many ways of stopping a caster, but it's all about rationing their use so you aren't affected when you still have your cooldown.

With large groups, I use Entangling roots, Insect Swarm + Moonfire, and hurricane. And if I'm low on mana, I use Innervate. Love that spell.

The best way to counter a pesky arcane junky is TO BE a pesky arcane junky !
InwardChaos 7th May 2011, 6:56 AM edit delete reply
You know "Technically" the mage could have 4 mirror images, if she is wearing the yet-to-be-released armor set, which gives mages a chance to summon a mirror image upon casting certain spells. :P

As for fighting mages in pvp, I usually don't, since I spend most of the match in the graveyard. (I really suck at pvp)

I don't know who is the most efficient, but my deathknight is my most enjoyable Mage hunter.
If they iceblock it is guaranteed they folo up with that aoe freeze then blink. If you time it right, you can dark stim after the freeze then blink in their face.
If you pull it off it's basically a free kill, unless they have a ninja reaction speed.
