Greetings again!

This week I tried a few different things. Testing a new look, I drew Sara in Bloodied Pyrum and Kleeyo in Bloodied Charscale. I will not be keeping them in these, as I try to keep my characters wearing what they actually have. So from here on I will be drawing them both in their perspective Season 10 sets.

However, with the new armor changing feature, I might as well practice drawing them in Paladin Tier 2 and Shaman Season 2, since those are my favorite sets that I've held onto for all these years. I support the new customization feature, as it allows players to look how they want rather then getting stuck with another horrible looking armor set. I know Paladin players must be rejoicing, as historically we've had the largest number of ridiculously embarrassing-looking armor sets...far more then any other class. (Don't even try to argue, hunters!) There's just so many options and possibilities out there, and finally not everyone will be looking the same. Remember in WOLTK when everyone and their alts were in full T9? I know there's quite a bit of opposition to it, which is understandable. I'd imagine this will be quite a problem on PvP servers, when you can no longer just look at an enemy player to get a general idea of how much a threat they are- which is very important in deciding whether or not to pick a fight. That player's lvl 70 Fel Iron set might actually be concealing a full set of Ruthless Gladiator 0_o.

Well, I support the feature if it still means players actually have to go get the gear they want theirs to look like. If my mage alt has never been to BT. I shouldn't be allowed to make it's armor look like Tier 6.

Second, the 4th panel is complete hand drawn. No screenshot support. I'm trying this out because compiling with screencaps is entirely too time consuming. I'm finding its actually faster just to draw and color rather then putting up with incredibly slow and laggy map viewers or logging in the game and moving around the continents. I'll likely be attending the Federal Law Enforcement Academy later this year, so free timw will be extremely limited. If this comic is to survive I need to find a way to produce it in less time without compromising the quality too much.

Exit question: How do you feel about the new armor appearance changing feature (I'm not going to bother trying to spell it). Do you think it'll add variety to the game, or do you feel it compromises the game's integrity too much for players to be wearing gear they are actually not?

:3 waaaa the scary little tauren-deathwing is coming for me *fake scape*

Lol. This was funny. As for the exit question, I really have no opinion, since I never bothered to collect sets in the first place. I guess it's kinda cool...

another not often seen but very nice looking two eyed kleeyo drawing, your getting much much better! (not that you weren't good before, don't read to much into this)

as for the armor me being a career PvPer (mostly melee classes) i use player armor to judge if i want to attack a guy or more importantly quickly pick out high threat targets (mages, healers) with out haveing to click on each player to know what they are. in doing so i quickly find the danger player and then forces them down leave the other guys to be mop ups.

so over all im not sure what i think of the new customization, i personally think they should just add in a tattoo system for players to put on there toons (working like black and wight would be an easy to use system)

gosh this was a long winded post.

Hi Clef
nice comics, this little tauren is just a funny thing :)
Now, as for your question, I'm not sure what to think of it. Yes, I agree that it might be great for some characters to change the appearance of their set (I mean, some helmets - rogue or warlock for instance - were just ugly, I don't know what they thought, but they weren't in their right mind when they designed them). However, if I understood the thing well, you'll need to have the set you want to change the appearance of your set as, right? I mean, as a paladin, if I wanted to change my T9 set in say.. T2, I'd need to go find it in Black Wing's lair? Well, if that's gonna resurect some old dungeons, I say, go for it. I mean, BWL (if it's still available, which I doubt - sorry, never played Cataclysm) or MC were just a badass instances. The thing I dislike is that they won't really work on new skin for their set as people will just take the appearance of previous set. They could do great stuff, but they're chosing the easy way out in my opinion.
Clef 22nd Aug 2011, 12:36 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, BWL is still around. Seeing a lot of groups going there now farming their T2.

I find all of the arguments against the armor customization ridiculous.

In PvE, if you were a serious raider you inspected any PuG'd members to check for enchants and gems anyway. So, this new feature will change nothing. Thus, the argument that you won't know what a player has a first sight is weak.

In PvP, the argument is even weaker. For one reason, deception is a part of war. You opponent has zero obligation to let you know what they have and what they are capable of, and they have 100% right to conceal said information.

Claiming that you must be allowed to see what gear the opposing player has, and thus armor customization should be off during PvP; is the same as claiming that you must be allowed to see what structures and units you opponent has in Starcraft 2, and thus the fog of war must be removed.

There is no legitimate argument against this feature being added, period.
Adamantine 20th Aug 2011, 10:03 PM edit delete reply
hey there. That you like the feature is your right, you're entitled to have it and you have the right to express it. You're probably right also regarding your point. However you should try to be more open. I mean, Clef here is just giving her opinion and is opening for a debate, you don't have to just say that things are the way YOU like and we don't have to complain, that's just not to be done.

Buahaha :D Love the idea of Tal's wreaking havoc on the (hand-drawn) Stormwind :D No one said she has to join the Crusade to fight for equal rights, right? :P

As for TransM, mixed feelings here. I like it when I'm fighting in TB and know I've targeted a Season10-geared Pally. I like it even more when we both decide it's not worth the effort and change the target a second later. Shadow pvp for life! >]

PS. I was planning to make a pun on that particular scene in my anniversary strip, now I have to move it to a later date, shame on you :P

There are not enough doctors on this planet to take care of the brain damage this comic caused to the readers so far.

So... AWESOME. *happytears(pun intended)*

I can't help but keep looking at the Deathtal/Talwing panel. I don't know why but I just found that both cute, funny, and scary.

Your comic made me smile and truly LOL. As far as "mogging" is concerned, I think it is just a gold sink.

A few thoughts on Trasmogrification...

Overall, I like the idea. It's something that other MMOs have had for a while, so it feels about time that WoW's doing the same thing. I do have some specific thoughts about it...

I'm glad you need to have the original item in order to copy it, although I do wish I didn't have to go and find the stuff again. I don't see any feasible way to just "give back" what you already had though, so I guess it's a necessary evil. I do wish they decide to have some "basic sets" for people to copy without needing the item. No tier stuff, but maybe a few other items, as kind of a "sample".

I don't like some of the other restrictions they're putting on it. I really think you should be able to copy the look of a legendary item to a normal one; remember, you have to get the legendary yourself first, but if you went through the trouble of getting Thunderfury, or the Warglaives, you should be allowed to copy the look to your current weapon. I do agree that you shouldn't be able to change a legendary's look to a non-legendary though, to avoid "disguising" the item (more for PvP) I also really want them to allow some of the joke items, especially Barman's Shanker. It's such an iconic "dagger", since it was actually useful pre-raid gear, and it looks awesome.

The cost of mogging is fine with me, and I do like that they're making it a "commitment" to mog something, instead of just freely changing. Plus, it's another way to drain gold out of the economy, which is definitely a good thing.

I don't PvP much, but I don't mind being able to change your appearance. You're not allowed to change your armor type, so a plate wearer can't make himself look like a mage, and there's enough other ways to know how strong someone is without relying on just looking at their equipment.

One thing I don't like about this though: Druids get left behind, unless you're resto. Every time something like this comes out, I really, really want them to add some way to stay in caster form as a balance druid.

Armorlooks change feature...
Personaly i hope for a free selection of looks and that is mainly cos i am a roleplayer.
If i can change my top tier to a older but far cooler design then i love it.
But that whole point is kinda wasted if i have to collect those same armors and that mean dungeon grinding, raid farming and all that stuff for a set that i just want for the looks.
And what about the really old stuff?
Like D-1 and D-2?
They are effectively no longer in the game and you only get up to half of the items from D-1 as heirlooms and nothing of D-2.
How would they fix that since in their time they did look cool.
Not to mention other sets that are hard to come by along the fact that raiding mean you compete with others for the same armor.
But thats me, i do RP and very little PvE and PvP.
Clef 22nd Aug 2011, 12:40 PM edit delete reply
As far as I know. The original 8 piece dungeon sets are all still available, but they removed the quest chain to get the upgraded dungeon sets (i.e. Soulforge). Some of the old 5-mans got reworked, but I think Sunken Temple was the only one that had bosses removed.
TheMjohann 23rd Aug 2011, 11:56 PM edit delete reply
I see, i was sure D-1 vanished when dungeons were changed.
At least its not a Blizz store service for real money.
It will see good use i guess.

This should be good, and without any method of telling what gear you have if you stam stack on pvp gear you will look better then you would otherwise... plus i want War T-2 and banana paladins back a LOT
Nightwill 21st Aug 2011, 7:56 AM edit delete reply
Its very close to a suggestion I put on the forum back in the vanilla days. It adds a non required goldsink most will use.

That said Bliz is still screwing over some people. Bliz has not consistantly released graphics (blindfold) or has some only in certain quests (Better hope you saved it) or just nor spread others around (plate kilts for non paladins).

Restricting the armor types seems more like a coding excuse.

And the fact they think the Epic Hand of Sulfuar is ok to use but not the Legendary one thats harder to get is just silly. But again i worked hard on getting my Twin warglaives and hammer. I want to use them.

LOL I hadn't noticed that the panel was hand drawn, until I saw the comment and went back and looked. I was too busy giggling and wiping tears. :D

Transmogg... Honestly? If it gives us a reasonable option to escape punch bowl shoulders and wrestling championship belts, I'm all for it!

Oh goodness I was laughing so hard....

As for mogging, I am super pumped. I live on rp servers, so even though I don't rp, I do feel sentimental about my character, and this lets me personify them a bit more. I'm working on a set for my arcane spec, frost spec, and one that involves the imbued netherweave robe.

I'm more than pleased with having a costume ability finally in WoW. This is a feature that has been in a lot of MMO's and is one more little thing that I feel WoW should have jumped on long ago.

My hunter has a collection of every semi/unique-model bow I've been able to get my hands on. I loved that old lvl 68-70 shadowmoon valley event bow.

My belf paladin still has the lvl 70 lich king invasion ret/fury/+vs undead plate armor in the bank because it's a neat set.

And I forsee blacksmiths cranking out a lot of fel iron plate/chainmail and tailors will be begged for black mageweave.

No other words are needed.

As for the exit question, it'll be nice for instances, raids & BG's not to be full of people all dressed exactly the same :-)

Epic comic pure win there. As far the exit question I'm collecting t5 just for that purpose now all I need is to find serpentshire cavern. :(

Haha, now that's just adorable, and I bet she'd make a better Deathwing as well :P

As for the armor changin, I say it's about damn time. I'll never get to make use of it since I'm a Druid, but it'll be nice to finally see some variety in what people wear.
Paeris Kiran 22nd Aug 2011, 10:44 AM edit delete reply
Actualy... there is no need even for a Lich King... only thing one would need is to annihilate much of the Scourge manpower and after that there would really be no need...
Clef 22nd Aug 2011, 12:31 PM edit delete reply
The only problem is that every time the scourge wins a fight, their forces are replenished.

*shudders from the nightmares of fighting undead players in Warcraft 3*

I call HAX!
Paeris Kiran 27th Aug 2011, 11:07 AM edit delete reply
That would not be issue, with it´s numbers diminished and without leadership scourge would seize to be a threat.
Undead are generaly weak and their only real strength comes from numbers.

Me think that little girl played with shadow magic a bit too much! :P
Kaiser 23rd Aug 2011, 12:11 AM edit delete reply
As usual awesome comic, yay for tiny tauren rawr face xD

One thing i've always wondered is if Bolvar is now the new Lich King, couldn't he just order all the scourge to meet up in one area and let the Argent Crusade casually walk through and butcher them all?

As for the armor customization, oh happy day. I can finally wear the Deathmantle and Bloodfang set without looking like a noob :D.
As for the PvP aspect, it doesn't bother me =P, I have NEVER paid attention to the pvp gear my enemy is wearing. Mostly because I have never learned to recognize the pvp sets; usually I just look at the classes and target the ones that I know are healing (focusing on getting behind and watching combo points - BACKSTAB BACKSTAB BACKSTAB)
George 23rd Aug 2011, 7:17 PM edit delete reply
I think transmog might actually lead to better new gear sets- since people can now wear what they want, the art team can both see what they want and not have to worry about a design being too "out there" for players. I just hope they include unique rewards from quests a character has already completed when they add unavailable gear (and yes, they have already said that they'll let players transmog things like T3 without owning it). I don't know how hard that would be- it would depend on how flexible they're willing to be with the definition of "unique" (do unique colors count, do you have to do every quest with that model before any version can be used, does the quest have to be completed pre-4.3, etc)- but it would be rather cool to have.

With regards to PvP, I don't see how this will change anything. I don't much like arenas, but in BGs I've never seen "hit the best-geared player" work better than "hit the healer, then the FC, then the rest", and most of the time hitting the undergeared players first works better because otherwise you get half your team on a warrior with 4K resil and a healer while the rest of his team takes care of actually winning the BG. If it's really THAT vital to arenas that gear decide target priority, remember- you can do it too. It's no more imba than a team with enchants and gems versus a team without them.
Mewkow 24th Aug 2011, 10:48 PM edit delete reply
On the fourth panel.

I think I prefer that style. It looks more like a comic to me, and more pleasing to the eye. The rendered backgrounds are nice and all, but there is a slight disconnect between them and the drawn art.
