With my increasing dissatisfaction with how my art has been progressing, I've downloaded about 50 different photoshop and manga studio tutorials which I will be studying over the weekend in an attempt to be more proactive in improving my art. I'm probably going to be doing quite a bit of experimenting over the next few weeks. S&K is supposed to be my art guinea pig anyway, heh
I've noticed a lot of old console games are being remade to modern standards. The old N64 Goldeneye for Xbox360 (man, I played the hell out of that game during its day), the original Halo, the first Metal Gear Solid and probably more to come. I'm a firm believer in the expression "they don't make them like they used to." Some games may get outdated graphics, but not outdated gameplay. I like the idea of breathing new life into older titles that are more or less timeless classics. They do it to movies all the time, and the movie and gaming industries really aren't that much different. Just like movies- sequels may have better graphics and special effects, but commonly don't carry the novelty and originality of their predecessors.
Personally, I'd like to see GTA: San Andreas redone to GTA 4's standard. I always thought that was the best of the GTA series. Terumin and Final Fantasy 6 are two others that I think would be great.
Exit question: What are some of you classic favorites that you would like to see remade to modern standard (and still actually play)? Or do you have no interest in replaying titles you've already beaten years ago?

I personally think your art is always improving bit by bit and it does lean more towards anime and manga style, so despite knowing nothing about art at all it might be best at developing it that way. Either way I shall sit salivating every saturday as usual at your brand of weirdness!
I speak for many millions of nerds when I say Final Fantasy 7 should be remade! Although I think Squaresoft are keeping that cash cow for dire moments.
I think they could also have done with making Modern Warfare 3 to modern standards. (Ziiiing) Oh and Cannon Fodder, that would be interesting with a total remake of silly warmongering.
Funny thing is most old classic games have already either had a HD remake (Ico, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid) or are ongoing (Sonic, Mario etc)so it is hard to think of some!
FF7 certainly seemed to be the most popular...or at least created the most popular character. I mean how many games has Cloud made cameo appearances in? (Ergeiz, FF Tactics, Kingdom Hearts and Dirge of Cerberus off the top of my head, PLUS the Advent Children movie) Yuna from FF10 would be a close second. I racked up at least 200 hours game time in FF7 during its' peak, more so then I've invested in any other console RPG. But I still think FF6 had the most compelling story and emotion-inspiring sound track.
Yeah, i think i can say without a doubt that FF7 is the #1 game that people want to have remade. However, i don't think they'll be remaking it for a looong time, if ever. This Article explains it (read both pages)
http://www.gamesradar.com/the-truth-about-the-final-fantasy-vii-remake/?page=1
But we can't loose hope! There is always a chance that Square Enix will change they're mind and remake the game! And if they do, all i know is that i'll be buying both the game AND the console for it.
Hey! Lets do an Internet Petition Drive! I heard that it worked great with the Firefly TV Show! (Goes back to poking a nearby Beehive)
That is a good article and the official word on it is "It would take forever" and it is a good point that FF7 was HUGE and the graphics even for the time on the characters was not great even for the time. Lengthwise FF13 was not huge but filled with storyline and awesomeness which is how they made it one of the best graphical games for the PS3 (never played Xbox version) and I still haven't seen it bettered!
As the last point in the article says they are 'exploring the possibility' and maybe Square are a little scared about putting massive investment into things since The Spirits Within almost bankrupted them. There will always be the lingering thought that *if they did it* it would be one of those pivotal and epic moments in gaming! One day when I am 40 I will be playing it on my PS5 and having a gamergasm.
First off, I love your art style! It's so unique and different. It fits the WoW genre. However, as a fellow artist I understand the constant feeling that you need to improve. Always looking at other peoples awesome work and thinking "Man, I so wish I could do that!"
As far as old school remakes..FF7 for sure. Wouldn't mind Legend of Dragoon either. Even if they went back and redid all the original FF games with the new graphics and maybe threw in a few new game mechanics. Same with the old Zeldas. Oh, and a classic I could see being redone with new graphics and mechanics and turned into a WoW/DCUO type MMO...Oregon Trail...hells yeah. I remember fighting with other people in school for the "good computers" before classes started to play it lol. Ah yes, the many hours spent making sure no one died of dysentery.
heh. Oregon Trail...back when computer games had to be loaded via 8-inch floppy disks. One great thing about that game was that it saved the grave sites of everyone who played on that particular computer, so you got to see which classmates were fail, heh. Last time I played, my last settler died literally at the fort's doorstep. (not even an eighth of an inch left to go on the screen)
Another great comic :D Cant wait for next week! Oh, I think you should know this. I think there may be a typo in the first panel. Shouldnt it be "Except it won't BE me who kills you" ? I think you forgot the "Be"
Yeah,, that was what it intended to say. I got several more grammar and spelling errors in there. I tend to rush through the text portion, since it's such a pain. I admit I'm too lazy to go back and fix stuff after its posted :)
And also, to the exit question. A classic favorite of mine would be Zone of the Enders. Its a series on the PS2 but it is pretty old now. They are bringing it to xbox 360 in HD quality and I'm going to play the hell out of it like I use to back then!
>////> <////< ...Final Fantasy 7... And maybe Jet Set Radio Future, for the original Xbox. I really liked that game when I was younger. Maybe...a new Star Wars Battlefront, and Republic Commando
@Tsukistar: Whoa, didn't see that! But yeah, Clef does that every now and then (see comic 17).But awesome for pointing that out, though i think clef would've wanted that to remain unnoticed.
@Clef: I think in regards to not wanting to replay already beaten titles, i think that (I Know i'm going to sound crazy, but bear with me), Games are like books. A Sign of a good book is one that, despite the fact you already read it and know how it's going to end, you'll still re-read it again and again because it was sooo good. Also, in the same way, if someone forces you to read a bad book (or a school-reading book),you'll not only be through with it half-way, but you may even just stop reading just because it was so awful and/or boring.
As for the classic favorites, I personally want to see a remake of Starfox 64 (for tv console, not for gameboy 3ds), Diddy Kong Racing, LoZ Majora's Mask, The First Age of Empires Game, LoZ Ocarina of Time (but not in the Skyward Sword Graphics. Everyone looked weird in that game), and of course: FF7. Also, great exit question Clef! *Scribbles down games names* I now know what i'll be playing for the next few months...
I'd like to see the Lufia remakes keep going, but with III keeping its unique systems instead of getting Westernized like II did. I feel they could really expand the story with more storage space, and III introduced me to the RPG genre so it's got the biggest nostalgia factor. Plus I want to see what "frue destruction" looks like in 3D.
Oh come on, enough's enough. The Tauren didn't even know the gnomes EXISTED until a few years ago, there is absolutely no reason that they would have anything to do with their culture whatsoever! Lore nerd angry! Lore nerd RAGE!
Well, its not just Gnomes, any race that's really short. Sand Pygmies lived in Kalimdor before the first Gnomes landed, right? Those guys certainly have to be a result of prehistoric gnome/goblin cross-breeding mixed in with continuous inbreeding ever since.
It's at least 7 years (beginning of WoW was year 24. We're currently on Year 31), and with the speed of communications almost analogous to the real world, I trust there would be gnomes that have extensively studied other cultures.
Don't forget that vanilla WoW took place 4 years after WC3 (where Taurens were introduced to the rest of the world as they started traveling with the Horde), so that's possibly 11 years of gnome-tauren interactions.
Ckeff, Ive been following you since around 3-4 of your comics. I really do love them.
I wish I could convey my happyness with your art to you. You bring a great deal of joy and amusement to the masses of WoW players you are a great person.
As to your question it would be Alpha Centauri (Civ 2.5). I loved that games flow, RP, customization. Its nearly infinite replayability has me playing it decades after getting it..something no other title can boast.
Well, the old games I think of (ie. Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Freespace 2, and Halo Combat Evolved) all got upgraded versions. Though, for Freespace and Freespace 2, it was a fanmade project due to the source code being released. The community is as strong as when Freespace 2 was still new, and that's been about ten years. Improved graphics, gameplay, mission editor, more options; they all make the game so much better. Now add those to modes, and you've got a lot of geat things to play. Some of the most famous mods have been created by one relatively inexperienced person, and they keep getting better.
Heh...was wondering if anyone would pick up on that.
In star Trek, how many times does a Klingon use one of those knives to actually kill an enemy, or instead use to just execute one of their own (i.e. for failure/dishonor, ect)?
I figured makes the perfect icon to represent the slaying of one's own kin.
This is one of the first things I thought of, though I was thinking more of the previous "X-Wing" and "TIE Fighter" games. Also I would love to have Fallout 1 and 2 redone, maybe using the Diablo 3 engine. Give me my good old isometric view Fallouts!
Punked is common slang on some servers (including mine) for punting gnomes. Clef has used the spelling more then once in the past, and so it's clearly intentional. Also, you missed the lack of space between the word ownis.
Well even though they have already done the first four FF games, I hope they remake 6. As great as 7 was, 6 is still my favorite. Also, the metal gear solid collection is great, 3 games for less than the price of one!
I'll go for a very obscure game here, but after FF7 I want them to remake either of the two Drakan games. For some reason that's the game that has stayed with me the most.

my top favourite games back then

loved that game back in the day, couldnt get enough of it.
on another note i have to say im loving ur comic, two thumbs up =)
Would love to play that with a serius makeover.
Games thaqta they should have remakes for: Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire 1 and 2 and Lunar 2.
