Ah yes....deathgrip...the #1 most misused spell in the game...and I don't even think that can be argued.
So many times in battlegrounds, especially early WoTLK, new DK players would simply spam that ability whenever the cooldown was up, rather then using it at the right time. Most of the time they would just yank near-dead players to them just to snipe the killing blow from someone else. I got so frustrated at times I was going to write a deathgrup scenerio tutorial..
Your Death Grip spell finished it's cooldown. You are in the middle of a fight. Do you deathgrip:
A) The guy in the cluster of melee getting gang raped who is already at 10% health
B) The Hunter who's trying to flee a warrior who already has him hamstrung and in the middle of a whirlwind
C) The Mage sitting on top of a ledge counterspelling and arcane blasting your healer
You are in WSG. Your DG cooldown is up. Do you use it on:
A) The healer who has already been CCed by a teammate
B) The guy running circles around the battle in RP gear showing off his spectral tiger mount
C) The Rogue chasing your flag carrier who's keeping slow poison on him
You are at a standoff at the bridge near the Alliance base in AV. There are several enemy ranged classes attacking your team. Who do you deathgrip into your group?
A) The Boomkin
B) The Hunter
C) The Elemental Shaman
You get the idea. Playing on Kleeyo (enhancement) I spent SO MUCH TIME chasing after players who got deathgripped AWAY from me. As Sara (holy) I was saved on multiple occasions where I would be getting stunlocked by several melee and get deathgripped out of the group where I would be able to heal myself again (usually accompanied by me shouting "thanks for the save, ***hole" toward my screen). I mean, they can't just click Ice Chains instead? I can't think of any situation where that spell isn't useful. I honestly think deathgrip is just the stupidest spell in the game.

I completely agree with your analysis of deathgrip. It's not just battlegrounds, for some reason DKs feel the need to lifegrip stuff in dungeons, that the tank is tanking, away from the tank. I'm not sure why, but there also seems to be a lot of DKs running dungeons in blood presence... as dps. They get aggro, they die, and they don't want to change even when yelled at.
I'd forward lifegrip as the second worst.
I've seen lifegrip used once, and only once, to save a person from something. Instead it has become a tool for griefing other people. We have even formed an agreement among the dps in my raidgroup, if one of us gets lifegripped to cause grief, we all sit until the priest says sorry. No moving, no dpsing, nothing. If we die from something kited over us, that's a second sorry, and the priest owes the g-bank repair costs!

Totally agree on deathgrip.
Both when you have them on your team or on the opposite they keep doing it wrong!

I'm really starting to like that undead chick she acts cute at times. especially at the 11th panel. that and when she grabs Jyo her expression is like don't hurt me!

The Boomkin? A well-placed typhoon just got you and several members of your team sent flying over the edge, as well as some choice words thrown at your over battleground chat :(

A response to that Clef.. That typhoon would never be able to become landed because if an instant strangulate focus macro. Its that simple.

Well if you grab the hunter he's just gonna disengage. There really isnt any right answer to this question

There is, actually. A hunter disengaging doesn't get members of your team killed.
Plus, Hunters disengaging on bridges sometimes leads to dead hunters.

I'd say, C, C, and.....C. And I've used deathgrip myself, usually while playing solo to draw an enemy away from a group and then take him out while his friends try to catch up. But I don't usually use it in the battle grounds or while in a group. I just wade in and let my sword do the talking.

The mage, the rogue, and the shaman. And I don't BG much at all. Icy Chains and Brain Freeze are my goto buttons in BGs, Death Grip reserved for a fleeing healer so I can finish killing them, a flag carrier who's slipped by, or someone trying to nom OUR healer.
though most often, I end up feeling like I need to apologize for 90% of the idiots who play my class. *siiiigh*

I just loved that spell. When they used it on me, that is. Uusually went as follows:
1. DK Death Grips me(Survival Hunter) into the 'melee class cluster'
2. I prepare Raptor Strike mid-air
3. Hit DK with Wing Clip/Mongoose Bite
4. Use Deterrence so they waste whatever ability or spell they wanted to gank me with
5. They waste whatever ability or spell they wanted to gank me with(Always. Is it so hard to notice that buff? 'Gosh, weapons are flying around his chest. I guess I'll just spam whatever.')
6. I put down Frost- and Snake Trap for good measure and run
7. The other DK(How many of them are out there?) Death Grips me back to the cluster
8.I Disengage to safety and use my fresh Lock'n Load proc to blow their healer up(if any. Rare occurence.)
Basically the DKs just crippled themselves and everyone else in a 5-15 yard radius. It shouldn't work, but you know what a WG match is like...

Mage, Rogue, Hunter, and hunter only not immeditate obvious one because of typhoon on boomy and thunderstorm on shamy knocking people off the bridge. However, for #2 the comedy option is to grab the guy in RP gear so you can get a better look at it. That's a great looking outfit! Where did you get those shoes?
Death grip is actually pretty neat if used correctly, but it definately ranks high on the poorly used spells, and probably on top for "Most frusterating for others when used incorrectly".
Also, congratulations on hitting your 300k milestone.

Absolutely. In the hands of a knowledgeable DK deathgrip can be a valuable tool. Its just one of the few spells that can actually be a major inconvenience to a an entire team if used incorrectly.

As a DK tank, DG is a wonderful tool in my arsenal, especially on bosses. With the glyph that allows the cd to reset on immunity, I spam it when I need to top threat.

As for your exit question: None of the Above!! They're all Trick Questions!! You just DG the first enemy unit you see on your screen!! (*punched*)
But seriously, it may be that i haven't played Death Knights very much, but i'm curious why B for #3 is wrong (i also didn't know about A, but you just explained)
Lastly, perhaps this is a good scenario:
You are in a Dungeon and you are in front of the room with the boss and your group decides to buff up and regain Mana/Hp. Your DG is up, what do you do?
A)DG the Boss while standing next to your Tank
B)DG some random NPC from a nearby group upon your group leader's command.
C)DG the Healer NPC from a nearby group to your group of DPS's

I've found DG useful for moving casters on my pally tank, because I can taunt the caster off instead of having to run (or have a DPS run). However, I agree that it's often more trouble than it's worth, mostly because of the taunt- in PvP I've found that most DKs don't use it or use it too rarely to hurt the team, but in Heroics or raids a lot of DKs forget it taunts and use it to move a caster or something, which rarely ends well. LG, however, I'm a big fan of, mostly because for every time I've been griefed with it there's at least three instances of it either saving me or doing something legitimately funny, like being used to move a DCed party member between rooms while we waited for his internet to return.

DG can be very powerful if used properly, and a pain in the butt if not.
I don't pvp much on my dk, but when I tank on her, its a powerful tool given its ability to jerk a caster to you that might be back there spamming big nukes at your healer, or spamming bomb heals on the mobs.
When I'm dpsing, I keep it around in the event a caster needs to the brought in. I can usually grip a caster, pop AMS, and burn them down in a very short time if the tank doesn't taunt it off me. It can require a bit of communication, but it's certainly an ability that can be very useful if used in the right manner.
Besides that, it looks cool to have things flying through the air to you.
